During my coursework at Kent State, I was required to design a book that consisted of at least 8 spreads. However, I wanted to learn the craft of binding a hardback book, so I designed several more spreads to give it enough substance to be bound in hardback. I chose John James Audubon as my subject because I have always had a passion for nature photography and illustration. Along with creating the binding and a belly band with a leather accent, I also included my own nature photography, illustrations and calligraphic lettering. Finally, I designed a timeline of Audubon's life using an illustration of his rifle.
